Dr. Leonard Gray

Dr. Leonard Gray runs Bay Area Plastic Surgery as its owner and director. He is a plastic surgeon certified by two boards, the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and he holds the MD and FACS credentials. His memberships include the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the California Medical Association and the San Francisco Medical Society. Over more than 20 years he has performed cosmetic plastic surgery in San Francisco, with patients treated at the practice's accredited surgical center during that period. Training began with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Master of Arts in Immunology. At UCLA medical school he won the AOA Research Award, one of five medical students nationwide to receive it. His residency and plastic surgery fellowship leaned heavily toward cosmetic work. He then took a fellowship in hand and microsurgery in San Francisco under Dr. Harry Buncke. His focus is aesthetic surgery of the breast, body and face. For the breast, he does augmentation, lifts and revisions, including capsular contracture treatment, and uses vertical mastopexy as well as other mastopexy methods. He also plans implant removal to suit each patient's anatomy and aims. Body procedures include tummy tucks and liposuction for men and women, 360 liposuction of the trunk, Brazilian butt lifts with fat transfer and mommy makeovers. Facial surgery covers facelifts, eyelid procedures and open or closed rhinoplasty. Injectables and non-surgical body contouring with BodyTite, SculpSure and EmSculpt NEO are also offered. He invented the non-surgical laser breast lift known as LazeLift, and he patented a collagen-coated breast implant in 1983 while at Stanford University. He measures breast implants in person instead of relying on computer models. In breast revisions he tries to reuse the original incisions when that is safe. For capsular contracture revision he removes the entire capsule and may use an acellular dermal matrix. He usually suggests a tummy tuck once a patient has finished having children. After a Brazilian butt lift he tells patients to keep direct sitting pressure off the buttocks for two months.
