Dr. Juan Ortiz

Board-certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, he is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds a license from the North Carolina Medical Board. He has close to two decades of surgical experience. During his Army career he served as Chief of Surgery at a combat support hospital in Afghanistan, and he led surgery and plastic surgery at Womack Army Medical Center before opening his Raleigh practice. Earlier, he ran breast reconstruction surgery services at Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital.

His training covers general and plastic surgery. He received his MD from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, where he was an honored member of Alpha Omega Alpha, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. He completed a general surgery internship and five-year residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, a plastic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Memphis, and a burn fellowship at its Firefighters Regional Burn Center. He has taught as a professor at the Methodist University Physician Assistant Program and the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, currently serves as a case reviewer for the North Carolina Medical Board, and was a principal investigator in a clinical outcomes study on advanced breast reconstruction techniques.

His procedures include breast augmentation, tummy tucks, forehead reduction, mommy makeovers and plastic surgery for men. Rhinoplasty is central to his work, including ethnic rhinoplasty that preserves features tied to each patient's heritage. For labiaplasty he mainly uses a wedge reduction, and he takes on revision cases, including correction of earlier over-resection. He has performed more than 1,500 breast procedures, more than 1,000 tummy tucks, more than 500 labiaplasties, more than 200 forehead reductions, more than 150 rhinoplasties, more than 150 lip reductions and more than 100 otoplasties. He is one of North Carolina's leading plastic surgeons, and colleagues recognize him nationally and internationally. Each new patient meets him one-on-one. At the pre-operative visit he reviews surgical details, questions and pre-operative photos, and for Brazilian butt lifts he covers fat donor areas, expected outcomes and recovery during consultation.
