About
Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, MD, works in New York as a plastic surgeon and as the founder of Alpha Male Plastic Surgery, a practice he started in 2023. Before that, he was a founding partner and plastic surgeon at Gotham Plastic Surgery from 2006 to 2023. He has been an attending surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital since 2004, and from July 2004 to July 2006 he held an attending role at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He also teaches plastic and reconstructive surgery residents from NYU at Bellevue Hospital and fellows at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
A B.S. in Biology with honors came to him from the University of Iowa in 1988, and he attended the university's College of Medicine from 1989 to 1994. His NYU years lasted eight, split across general surgery and the plastic side of the field, with plastic surgery training at the NYU Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and time at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. The practice names McCarthy, Aston, Baker, Tabbal and Pittman as his mentors in that training. He also completed a craniofacial research fellowship at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery from 1997 to 1999 and served there as a plastic surgery resident from 2001 to 2004. His board certification is from the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and he carries the FACS credential.
His work is minimally invasive aesthetic care, spanning surgical and non-surgical treatment of the face and body, with a focus on body contouring. He regularly performs male plastic surgery, breast augmentation and tummy tucks, and offers facial rejuvenation with Botox for forehead lines, crow's feet and glabellar lines. According to the practice, about half of his patients are men. The practice describes him as one of New York's premier cosmetic surgeons.
He has given talks at plastic and aesthetic surgery conferences in the United States and overseas, and he is lead author of ten peer-reviewed publications, with co-authorship on over forty more. He edited the textbook Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for the Male, published by Thieme in 2019, and has served on the board of The Aesthetic Society since 2023, in a second term. He has won funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and from the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation. Coverage of him includes a New York Times piece on men's growing interest in plastic surgery, The Wall Street Magazine, and an Elle interview about Zeltiq.
