About
Dr. Ashley Lonergan is a fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon in Boston and the only female facial plastic surgery specialist at the Boston Center for Plastic Surgery, where she practices. She joined that center along with Northeast Hair Restoration. After completing training in other parts of the country, she returned to Boston to practice. Her work centers on facelifts, rhinoplasty and hair restoration, and her hair transplant work includes eyebrows, beards and scalps that are scarred or have had earlier surgery. Her education started with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology from the University of New Hampshire, followed by a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and a five-year otolaryngology, head and neck surgery residency at the University of California, Irvine. A fellowship through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Williams Center for Plastic Surgery followed, under Dr. Edwin Williams and Dr. Keimun Slaughter. It covered surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation along with hair restoration, and six months of it were spent entirely on hair transplant surgery. Hair restoration planning begins with how the hairline relates to forehead shape and overall facial proportions. When a less invasive option can meet a patient's goals, she will not recommend a surgical transplant, and she reviews the tradeoffs of each option. On the non-surgical side she favors gradual, natural-looking change through injectables and skin treatments, sometimes combining them into a custom plan. Consultations include a frank look at recovery and realistic healing timelines, and she gives an objective opinion, including when less is the right answer. After surgery she maps a staged timeline for returning to work and exercise and tracks progress at each follow-up. She has presented research at national symposia, including AAFPRS meetings and the Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings, and has contributed to peer-reviewed literature on rhinoplasty, nasal obstruction, complex reconstruction and aesthetic techniques. She received a second-place scientific poster award at a national AAFPRS meeting. Research grants have come from the New England Otolaryngological Society and Tufts University.
