About

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Andrew Gear, MD launched Providence Plastic Surgery & Skin Center and directs its medical side, guiding both the aesthetic staff and the surgical program. Board certification in plastic and reconstructive surgery came from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and appears on RealSelf as a Verified Doctor. Over nearly two decades he has worked in private practice and in a corporate cosmetic medical setting. Undergraduate and medical school were completed at the University of Virginia, which also hosted his research fellowship in burns and wound healing. Next came a general surgery residency, a three-year plastic surgery residency and a keloid genetics research fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Two six-month fellowships followed, one in craniofacial and pediatric surgery and one in cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles. He is best known for breast and body contouring and takes on complicated work such as post-weight-loss body contouring, revision liposuction and male body sculpting, treating both men and women. The procedures patients ask about most are breast augmentation, tummy tuck, 360 liposuction, mommy makeover and breast lift. His stated goal is refined, artistic outcomes instead of trend-driven surgery. A consultation begins with a discussion, then a physical exam, and surgical options come afterward. Lymphatic massage and engineered compression garments are routine at the office after surgery. Intraoperative brainwave monitoring is used during operations, a practice uncommon in private practice. He ranks among the top plastic surgeons on the East Coast, and he won the Charlotte's Best and Charlotte BOB Awards. He was the first plastic surgeon in North Carolina to introduce enhanced recovery protocols with BIS brainwave monitoring in outpatient surgery, and the first in the region to use fractionated radiofrequency and fractionated CO2 for facial resurfacing and to use structured saline implants.
