About

Diane Da Costa is the founder of SimpleeBEAUTIFUL, the CurlyTexturedBAR and CurlyTextured Academy, where she also teaches masterclasses for industry professionals and students. She holds a cosmetology license, works as a master colorist, and has been in the beauty industry for more than 30 years. She is an internationally known celebrity stylist and texture pioneer, and works as a textured hair advocate, educator and writer.

She wrote Textured Tresses, published by Simon & Schuster in 2004, and co-authored the 13th edition of the Milady Standard Cosmetology textbook before editing the 14th. She was artistic director of the Milady Cutting Textured Hair video series and has developed educational seminars for Phyto Specific and Design Essentials. In April 2022 she developed the Texture Certification Program with TRESemme and CurlyTextured Academy. The complimentary program was open to 1,000 stylists in the United States and covered texture hair fundamentals, the texture cut and texture styling.

She previously owned Dyaspora Salon Spa in New York City, a multi-textured Aveda Concept salon. She was also Honey magazine's inaugural beauty and hair editor and held the same role at uptownmagazine.com. She has worked as a brand stylist and curly textured expert for Carol's Daughter, a L'Oréal-owned brand, as a multi-textured expert and creative consultant for Mizani, and as a consultant for AVEDA. Her styles have appeared in Essence, O Magazine, Vibe and British Elle. She has styled clients including Blair Underwood, Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, Roy Hargrove, Cindy Blackman-Santana and Dee Dee Bridgewater, and received the 2021 Master Pioneer Award for texture and natural hair styling.
