About

David E. Halpern runs Tampa Bay Plastic Surgery, where he also practices as the plastic surgeon. He is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Tampa General Hospital, Medical Director of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center at Memorial Hospital, and an Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of South Florida. Earlier he served as Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital. He was elected president of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2022 and currently presides over the Florida Hand Society. For the last 15 years he has taken regular shifts on the Hand Call Team at Tampa General Hospital, and he has cared for patients for the past two decades. He earned his medical degree at New York University and completed training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He is triple board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery and micro-hand surgery. Micro-hand work requires an operating microscope. His specialties are cosmetic surgery, aesthetic rejuvenation, body contouring and body lifts. He personally performs every PBME hair restoration injection and helped develop the PBME technique alongside industry leaders. His research has appeared in national peer-reviewed journals, and he is an expert in plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He has appeared on the national TV shows The Doctors and Rachael Ray to talk about Strawberry technology. The South Tampa News Reader's Poll named him South Tampa's Best Plastic Surgeon. In 2010 he volunteered in Haiti treating earthquake injuries, performing procedures in makeshift operating rooms alongside two other surgeons. He frames plastic surgery as part art, part science, and avoids recommending surgery when a non-surgical option exists. Through his leadership roles he shares his expertise and trains future plastic surgeons.
