Zig Zag Curl operates as a private studio with limited space, inside Silk Screen Studios on W Berks St. The salon describes itself as a safe space for all textures and curl types, with its focus on curly, coily and wavy hair.

Education and support sit at the center of the work. Kat, the owner and curl specialist, guides clients through their curl journey with patience and care.

Cuts are shaped to each client's curl pattern and goals, using a range of cutting techniques rather than dry cutting alone. Color runs from root retouching and single process to face framing, partial and full highlights, dimensional brunette and red or copper shades, and creative color such as fantasy hues and color blocking. Creative color requires a consultation, and its time and price depend on complexity and the products used.

New clients have an initial consultation before any color, styling or treatment. Clients are asked to arrive with hair down, mostly detangled and free of sticky products. Services are by appointment only, online booking requires a credit card kept on file, and a deposit is needed for consultations and for hair used in extensions. Cancellations made more than 48 hours ahead carry no charge, while later cancellations and no-shows are charged a share or all of the service cost.
