YUKO

YUKO was founded in 1996 by stylist and lecturer Yuko Yamashita, who developed its straightening system with researchers at Phiten, a Japanese sports, health and beauty company. The brand takes its name from her. Its flagship salon opened in Beverly Hills in 1999, and the business now operates from Torrance.

The company describes its straightening process as Japanese hair straightening, also known as thermal reconditioning, and calls the system the original of its kind. Its Repair technology received US patent approval in October 2000, and the company says the system is patented in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and several other countries. Two service families are offered. YUKO Hair Straightening starts at $450 for whole hair and $400 for a touch up, and includes a trim and iron styling. ANTI-FRIZZ BY YUKO, a frizz-control treatment that the company says seals in nutrients, starts at $300 for whole hair and $270 for a touch up, and includes a trim. Haircuts and color are also available, and the salon asks clients to contact it directly for pricing.
