Yen Beauty Academy

The school opened in 2015 and is based on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington. It describes itself as a premier beauty school in the area and says more than 200 students have graduated since it opened. It also says it offers 100% satisfaction and describes its pricing as competitive and affordable; these are the school's own claims.

Three programs are offered. The Cosmetology Program costs $9,000 and prepares students for the State Theory and Practical Exam. The Nail Technician Program is 350 hours for $3,500, a fee that covers all necessary supplies. It includes 70 hours of manicuring, pedicuring and nail enhancements, along with coursework in state laws and regulation, infection control, and anatomy and physiology. It is taught in English and Vietnamese and enrolls monthly. The Wax Technician Program is a licensing course; its price is not listed.

Classes start on the 1st and 15th of the month after registration. Applicants need a valid state ID, a valid Social Security number, and must be 17 or older; applicants under 18 need parent or guardian approval. Admission includes an interview with an admission advisor and a $100 application fee that is not refundable. Prospective students can book a tour and meet the instructor before deciding.

The school accepts Visa, Mastercard and checks. It does not currently offer payment plans or financial aid, and it does not offer online courses at present; online classes are being explored through a pilot phase pending approval. The school states it is accredited by the Virginia State Board of Cosmetology and lists its school license number. Graduates are encouraged to apply for positions at the school's own salon in Arlington. The office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed on weekends.
