Wild Hare Salon opened in downtown Marengo in November 2000 and is part of the Summit Salon group. The salon is owned by Carrie Risse, who is also a Level 6 Stylist there. The salon describes its aim as giving guests a good experience and helping them leave feeling confident, and it calls itself a safe space.

Services are organized into three groups: treatments and styling, coloring, and hair cutting. Coloring includes color retouches, partial and full highlighting, mega highlighting, and partial and full balayage. Cutting covers barber cuts, children's cuts for ages 12 and under, and cut and blowout services. Treatments and styling include a classic hair treatment, a luxury treatment with heat, a Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment, shampoo and blowouts, formal and event styling, and perms, which are booked without a cut. Guests who have not visited in six months or more, or who are new, need a free 15-minute hair analysis before any chemical service. That consultation covers the desired result, pricing, and service length, and the chemical service itself is scheduled for a different day.

Services are offered on a level system, so guests pick the level that fits their needs and budget. Stylists move up levels as demand for their time grows. Team training begins at hire and continues through a stylist's career, and the salon places continued education and workshops at the center of its team development. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00am to 8:30pm, Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
