The salon started in a small basement in 1990 and has been operating for more than 36 years. It now occupies a historic Victorian home described as about 200 years old, with original crown molding and hardwood floors. Sheri Gayer, who owns the business, bought it in 2016 from Shelly Devlin.

About

The salon says it focuses on relationships rather than trends, aiming for honest advice and care that lasts. It describes its team as bringing certified expertise and personal attention to each appointment. Water's Edge is a certified Green Circle Salon and says it recycles up to 95 percent of its waste, including hair clippings and leftover color; it describes its waste practices as very low-waste.

Stylists are priced at two levels, Designer Stylist and Advanced Stylist, with Advanced Stylist prices set higher. Advanced Stylists also serve as internal trainers and mentors for the team. Color is quoted as a minimum starting rate that varies with length, volume and the result wanted. Creative and corrective coloring, which most often takes two to three hours, and hair extensions both begin with a complimentary consultation.

Body treatments take place in the Victorian home and are designed for relaxation rather than therapeutic massage. One spa room has two treatment tables for couples, and two-person facial or body appointments need a phone call to schedule. Spray tans use Norvell products exclusively. The salon advises booking exfoliating services such as waxing, facials and manicures at least 24 hours before a spray tan, and recommends SPF 30 daily since a spray tan does not protect against the sun.

The salon is open Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 8 PM, Wednesday and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Hours may change with weather or holidays. Bookings can be made by calling (603) 421-1990.
