waKs. opened as a private studio in November 2019. Its owner, Kayla, had worked for corporate wax studios and set up a smaller, more personal space of her own.

Services are grouped by anatomy rather than gender identity, because technique, appointment length and pricing can vary by area of the body. Body waxing, bikini and Brazilian services, and face and brow work each have their own listings and prices.

Booking is online. Clients should select every service they want at booking so enough time is reserved, and several waxes can be combined in one visit. First-time clients sign in with a phone number, and introductory and new-client specials appear on the booking page. Reminders go out by email or text three days ahead as a courtesy, but clients remain responsible for their appointments.

Cancellation terms depend on the appointment: 24 hours' notice for 15-minute visits, 48 hours for visits of 30 minutes or longer, and 72 hours for facials. Late changes carry a fee of half the scheduled services, and a no-show is charged the full amount.

Waxing is offered Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; facials are offered Sunday and Monday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The studio says waxing is generally fine during pregnancy if staff are told. Clients may be waxed during their period, though the studio advises avoiding the days right before or during it, when skin can be more sensitive.

The studio describes its waxing as high-end quality. It says it was voted Best of Monmouth by Health and Life Magazine for full body waxing and brow shaping in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025.

Expert-led without being pretentious, body-positive and gender-affirming, and vegan, with deliberate choices about the products used on skin.
