Christie Kaier first joined the salon in 1990 as a receptionist at the Columbia location. She and Scott Schmidt bought the business in 2005, and it moved to Clarksville Commons in 2018.

The salon describes its mission as offering comfort, care and compassion while helping clients feel confident. It is a partner of Clarksville Commons in its environmental sustainability work through sustainable beauty, and it says it keeps its team current on techniques, products and trends. It also offers educational opportunities to the Howard County salon community.

Every visit begins with a consultation so the stylist can shape the look around the client. Bookings can be made through the V&A app on iOS and Android, or by phone or email. The barber space, V&A Barbers, is inside the salon, and children are welcome. Anyone who comes along with a client waits in the reception area.

Signature offerings include a three-level scalp reset series, several Brazilian Blowout smoothing options, and permanent color through an ammonia-free line. Color and chemical services include a blow-dry so clients can see the finished result.
