Venus Hair

Venus Hair is located at 361 West 19th Street in the Heights neighborhood of Houston. The salon takes on a wide range of requests, from a basic trim to a multi-colored mohawk, and says it will work with unconventional styles as well.

The interior takes its cues from Mardi Gras carnival style, with costume face coverings, strings of colored beads, mannequin figures, statues modeled on the Venus de Milo, and canvases by artists from the area on the walls. Guests are wrapped in vintage animal-print capes to shield their outfits during appointments. The Venus Hairse art car is kept parked out front whenever the salon is open.

Big hair work is a specialty here, including beehives and bouffant updos. Color services include dyeing hair in several colors at once. Makeovers are also offered, and the salon keeps a photo gallery of its makeover work. The salon says it was named a 2012 Houston A-List winner for Best Hair Salon, and it reports earlier CitySearch awards for Best Hair Salon and Best Color and Highlights in 2006.

The salon says it accepts any style request, including unconventional ones.

Carnival-themed decor runs throughout, with face masks, bead strands, mannequin figures, Venus de Milo statues and works by area painters on display, plus the Venus Hairse art car out front during opening hours.
