Velvet Strands KC was opened by Ashlyn Troutman in her own salon suite in Lee's Summit. She returned to cosmetology after a non-linear path and graduated from cosmetology school, and the business is built around her own work at the chair.

About

The studio offers hair services and waxing. Color is a major focus, from bold or playful shades and dimensional color to lived-in blonding, root touch-ups for gray coverage, and color correction. Cuts range from a quick bang trim to kids' cuts, men's cuts and women's cuts that include a shampoo and blow dry. Perms, glosses and toners are also offered.

Clients can pay in person with Buy Now, Pay Later for bookings from $50 to $4,000, subject to approval before the appointment.

Ashlyn sees hair as closely tied to how people feel about themselves and how they want to express themselves, and she is open to clients who want time set aside for self-care. The portfolio page shows before-and-after photos of past work.

Customized hair created in a relaxed, personalized appointment, with a focus on each client's own style.

The suite is set up to feel warm and a little elevated.
