Vella iLab opened in 2018 as an eyelash extensions salon in Indian Trail. The salon describes its focus as keeping clients' natural lashes healthy, and it customizes each set to the client's lifestyle, natural lashes and face structure.

Every new client starts with a free consultation to plan the lash set and an aftercare routine. Clients are asked to arrive with clean lashes that are not curled, and with their hair washed beforehand. Recliners are available during appointments, and the salon says its lash beds are the most comfortable in Charlotte.

Extensions come in four styles: classic, with one extension per natural lash; volume, with two to five thinner extensions per lash for fuller lashes; mixed, which combines classic and volume; and mega volume, with up to 12 extensions per lash. The salon says it uses the lightest and thinnest lash extensions on the market. Fills are timed by how many days have passed: up to nine days counts as a one-week fill, up to 16 days a two-week fill, and up to 25 days a three-week fill. Longer gaps require a full set. An upcharge applies at a fill when less than 40% of a client's extensions are still intact. Touch-ups are accepted for sets applied by another artist if they were done correctly; incorrectly applied extensions are removed first.

The Yumi lash lift with tint is a keratin-based treatment that keeps lashes curled for 8 to 12 weeks. It is formulated in France and described as hypoallergenic, vegan, ammonia free and paraben free. It takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and costs $150. Lash tint is $30 and takes about 30 minutes, and bottom lash tint is $10 for the same length of time.

The Vella iLab Lash Academy runs a three-day beginner course in classic lash extensions, limited to three students. The course is 90% hands-on, with homework and a manual mailed before the first class. Students must pass a written and a hands-on exam to receive a certificate.

Lash extensions are customized to each client's lifestyle, natural lashes and face structure, with the aim of keeping natural lashes healthy.
