The salon describes itself as hair color specialists. Its name is meant to suggest pride in one's appearance along with protecting and looking out for oneself, and its mission is for clients to love their hair, receive compliments and feel good when they leave.

New clients begin with a complimentary, in-depth color consultation that covers their needs, aesthetic preferences, skin tone and a screening for color allergies. The salon prefers this consultation to happen in person so the hair's structure and integrity can be tested. Existing clients who are considering a major color change, or who have been away for six months or more, can also book a color consultation. At each visit the stylist talks through goals, limits and preferences, and follow-up after the appointment checks how the results held up.

Services are not rushed. Some take an hour, others several hours, and involved work can run across a series of appointments or over a day or two. Large color projects can be divided into smaller sessions. Extensions require a consultation and are priced at an hourly rate plus the cost of the hair. Stylist rates reflect experience, starting at $30 per hour for entry-level stylists and rising to $70 per hour at Level 9, with levels 2 through 8 priced in $5 steps. Chemical peels can be combined, and waxing and eyebrow, eyelash and extras services can be booked alone or added to another appointment.

Policies cover the practical details. Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, and a waiting list is managed daily for openings. Cut adjustments are covered if concerns are reported within 7 days, though entirely new haircuts are not. Color is guaranteed for 7 days when Alfaparf products bought at the salon are used at home, and the guarantee is void if the color is altered elsewhere. Automatic refunds are not given; clients are offered adjustments first. Clients earn points redeemable for haircuts, treatments and vanity enhancements, and referrals earn a $20 gift certificate for each new client who receives a service.

The salon takes a science-based approach to hair and color chemistry, with the integrity of the hair as the primary concern. Each client's goals, limits and likes are discussed at every visit, and care at home is prescribed after services.
