Unique & Special Kids Spa was opened in 2018 by founder Martia Clark and is located in Suite 405 at 6911 Richmond Highway. It is open Monday, and Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 7pm, on Sundays from 11am to 6pm, and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Appointments are required for spa services and can be made online or by phone. Every spa service includes use of a satin robe, and a free 15-minute tour is available for families who want to see the space before booking a party.

About

Children's manicures and pedicures are designed for young clients and use no metal tools, blades or sharp implements. The menu includes mini and deluxe mani/pedi options, a pumpkin spice deluxe version, and oatmeal and chocolate facials for kids. A teen facial for ages 13 and up is performed by a licensed esthetician at the sister spa, Silk Rose Spa, which sits next door and also offers adult services. Children's massage, for children at least 6 years old, is booked with a licensed massage therapist through Silk Rose Spa; parents must stay in the room for children under 13. A Mommy or Daddy and Mini-Me Spa Day pairs a deluxe mani/pedi for the child with a foot bath, massage chair and hot tea for the parent.

The spa says it uses Young Living Essential Oils and other natural products, and that many of its hand soaps, lotions, scrubs and masks are natural or organic. Nail polish and remover are real polish; organic, all-natural polish and remover are available for a small additional charge. Color Street nail designs are offered. Makeup is for entertainment only and uses mild, kid-friendly products with disposable applicators. Hair care such as cuts, braids, color and treatments is offered on the third floor by Because of Drea Hair Care, which is booked directly with that provider.

Spa parties start at $80 per child for groups of 2 to 16 guests. Mini parties for 2 to 4 guests start at $90 per child and include a deluxe mani/pedi, drinks and a cupcake, but no food. Larger parties for 10 to 16 guests require a S.T.E.A.M. activity for the group at $150. Party guests receive a satin robe, a tiara or headband, a goodie bag, food, drinks and a vanilla cupcake. An 18% service fee covers gratuity for staff and is added to the balance. Bookings require a non-refundable $250 deposit ($100 for mini parties), with the balance due 5 days before the party. Parties are non-refundable; rescheduling within 2 weeks carries a $100 fee and within 24 hours a $200 fee. Guest counts are confirmed 5 days ahead, no-shows are not refunded, and up to 2 adults may attend, not exceeding the number of children.

Parents can sign a waiver in advance to grant or deny permission for their child's photo to be used in advertising. Payment is accepted in cash, major credit and debit cards, and Apple Pay, with a 3% surcharge on electronic payments. The business says it has received the Entrepreneurial Excellence award (2023) from the Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce and was named to the 40 Over 40 list (2025) by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.

Treatments are tailored for children, with no metal tools or blades in nail services, and the spa leans on natural products, including Young Living Essential Oils.
