UnionDerm was founded in New York City in 2011 by Anne Chapas, M.D., who serves as its Medical Director. The practice now operates a flagship office on Union Square, a Central Park office on West 58th Street, a Hamptons office in Water Mill and a Greenwich office on Mason Street, which is the newest of the four. The practice describes itself as a premier cosmetic dermatology practice in New York and says it offers more than 75 skin and body procedures. Every new patient begins with a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist, who assesses the skin, reviews any current skincare routine and prescription topicals, and then designs a plan. That same dermatologist performs the procedure. Treatment plans may combine several procedures across multiple visits. Medical staff include certified nurses trained in dermatology and medical assistants, each assigned to one patient at a time. The practice does not use nurse practitioners or physician assistants for procedures. For laser and injectable visits, patients can choose a topical numbing cream, Pronox inhaled nitrous oxide, Journavx, or other prescription pain medication when appropriate. The practice treats more than cosmetic concerns. Physicians manage acne, rosacea, melasma, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss, spider veins and scarring, and they screen for and diagnose skin cancer during office visits, without a blood draw. Mohs surgery is performed under local anesthesia, with the patient awake. The practice says Mohs surgery offers a high cure rate and keeps as much healthy skin as possible, and it says its physicians have treated tens of thousands of skin cancers. Facials are offered under the La Suite Skincare line, and the Greenwich office partners with that line for estheticians who provide pre- and post-procedure care. La Suite products are sold through an online store. At the Union Square office, Glacial Glide, a cold therapy product from La Suite, can be added after laser and energy-based procedures. An onsite lab prepares growth factors for platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin injections. The practice says it has more than 40 lasers and energy devices, that devices are not shared with other clinics, and that it is often among the first to introduce new technologies. Practical details: cosmetic appointments can be booked online, while medical and general dermatology appointments are made by phone at 212-366-5400, the number for all locations. Most appointments require a $200 deposit, and longer procedures such as Ultherapy require a larger one. Cancelling or rescheduling with at least 48 hours notice lets the deposit be kept as account credit or fully refunded. Less notice or a missed appointment forfeits the deposit. New patient cosmetic consultations can last up to 30 minutes, and same-day treatment is not guaranteed. Deposits are paid by credit card through Stripe, and the practice accepts major credit cards. Health insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures, deductibles and co-payments are due at the time of service, and the practice does not take CareCredit or other financing programs. Insurance participation varies by physician, and some physicians do not accept insurance at all. UnionDerm is not a pediatric practice. Union Square is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 5:30pm, and Saturday 9am to 2pm. Central Park lists the same weekday hours without Saturday. Greenwich is listed as open Thursdays 10am to 6pm, and the Hamptons asks callers to phone for off-season hours.

Physician-led care in which a board-certified dermatologist consults with each new patient, builds an individualized plan and performs the procedures, with the practice stating an aim of natural-looking results.
The Union Square floor sits in a landmark building and is furnished with Cassina and Cappellini pieces, the Hamptons exam rooms have treetop views, and some Greenwich exam rooms have skylights.
