Uncle Nat's

Uncle Nat's is a hair removal and skin care lounge in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, in a suite inside a residential building. The business says it aims to be a space for everyone, with specialized care for fat, transgender, disabled and people of color communities, and it describes itself as already making an impression in the hair removal industry.

The studio offers hair removal through laser and electrolysis, and its own combined method, Lasertrolysis, uses both. Laser work is done with a Candela Gentlemax Pro. Rather than selling prepaid laser packages, the studio builds each client's removal plan during the first visit. Laser sessions typically come every 2 weeks for the head, every 3 weeks for underarms, every 4 to 6 weeks for the torso including the Brazilian area, and every 6 to 8 weeks for the legs. Once a full course is finished, maintenance visits are suggested one to four times a year. A Brazilian has one price for every client, whatever their gender or genitals. Booking and pricing work the same way for all services, whatever a client's gender or body type.

Skin care covers the face and full body and focuses on wound healing, aging support, melanated skin, hormonal changes, skin immunity and crease care. Laser facials are described as reducing redness and supporting collagen, and can be repeated every 2 weeks. For post-surgery clients, the studio offers LED light therapy, scar treatment, scar scraping and skin rolling. Scar scraping and skin rolling is recommended as a series of five, spaced every 2 to 6 weeks, beginning 8 weeks after surgery.

Visits begin in a waiting area with a product tester wall, and early arrivals can have a plant tincture or a beverage. Clients remove their shoes in the hallway and wear socks or the provided house slippers. Appointments are required, though last-minute bookings are welcome, and booking is done online. Clients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, with a grace period ending 5 minutes after the appointment time, and must have their hands washed and bathroom needs taken care of before services start. Clients who are not shaved and did not book a pre-shave will have their services modified and be charged the full price of the booked services.

Cancellations or changes are accepted up to 48 hours before an appointment, and menstruation is not an exception to this. Late cancellations, lateness and no-shows are charged the full price of booked services plus a 20% service fee. An automatic tip of at least 20%, calculated on the original price of booked services, is applied to every appointment. Parking is validated at the 800 Flatbush garage, and a $15 fee is added for visits under $150 before tax and tip. The studio offers a sliding scale of up to 30% for marginalized clients who need hair removal, funded by full-price clients who choose to donate, as well as pay-what-you-can days. It does not currently accept insurance.
