The first Tricoci day spa followed in Arlington Heights in 1986, and Mario and his wife Cheryl grew the business into a network of salons and spas. The company says it has been operating for more than 45 years and that more than 1,100 professionals work with it. Its flagship salon is on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago.

The business is organized around the values of education, authenticity, confidence and evolution, and says its goal is to help guests look and feel their best.

Visits begin with a consultation for many services. Color, including balayage and corrective color, is planned with a colorist, and balayage pricing depends on hair length and density and is quoted in that consultation. Extensions also require a consultation before booking. Med spa visits open with a complimentary consultation with a board-certified nurse practitioner, who assesses skin and facial structure before a customized plan is made.

Booking is available 24 hours a day at book.tricoci.com or through the Tricoci app, and appointments are recommended. Walk-ins are accepted at Arlington Heights and Bloomingdale when there is availability. Changes or cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, and late cancellations are charged 50% of the service price while missed appointments are charged 100%. Tipping is at the client's discretion, with 15 to 20 percent noted as customary.

Locations vary in hours and in what they offer. Arlington Heights and Crystal Lake are open Tuesday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday hours, and are closed on Mondays. Bloomingdale is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Med spa services are offered at Crystal Lake, Oak Brook and Vernon Hills rather than at every salon. The Oak Brook med spa is on the second floor of the Oakbrook Center location, and the Vernon Hills med spa sits within Hawthorn Center.

Gift cards carry no expiration date, can be used at any salon and spa location, and are non-refundable. They cannot be applied to online product purchases on tricoci.com. Signing up by email unlocks offers, and referring a friend gives each person $25 toward a future treatment.

The company says it uses proven, professional-grade products, techniques and treatments, and that its stylists, colorists, therapists, estheticians and medical professionals are trained to high standards. The med spa describes its approach as evidence-based, with treatment plans tailored to each client's skin, goals and lifestyle.
