TOPCURL the Salon

Topcurl Beauty Academy trains students for beauty licensure and states that it is certified to provide that education in Maryland and Virginia. Every student receives exam prep to help them get ready for the state board exam. The academy also states that it is an official continuing education provider for Maryland beauty license renewal classes, and it offers continuing education classes more broadly. The academy describes its education model as award-winning, according to the academy.

TOPCURL the Salon is a full-service salon in Mitchellville Plaza in Bowie. Its focus is job placement for graduates of the academy's licensing programs. The salon also welcomes other licensed beauty professionals.

Beyond school and salon work, the business offers one-on-one sessions, virtual or in person, lasting up to three hours. These cover topics such as teaching strategies, managing the books, opening or running a salon, and opening a school. Clients must book a consulting session before starting work on school goals. Afterward, they can hire the team for part of an application or for full application guidance. Children and unregistered guests are not allowed in these sessions, and an extra guest costs $150.

The business also runs a nonprofit arm with its own website, and it offers franchise programs in cosmetology, nail technology, esthetics, instruction, barbering, makeup artistry and lash technology, plus a salon-only option. The site also lists VA benefits information, clinical services and events.

The Bowie salon and academy office are open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm, with a daily lunch closure from 1:30pm to 2:30pm, and are closed Friday through Sunday and on federal holidays. Tours are by appointment only.
