THREAD has been operating for almost 20 years. The first location opened in Murray Hill in 2005, and the Financial District salon on Nassau Street followed in 2007. The East Village salon on 3rd Avenue serves clients for threading and waxing only.

The business presents itself as inclusive and serves men as well as women. Threading and waxing are offered for men, including eyebrow threading and waxing of the back, shoulders, chest, arms and legs. Bikini, Brazilian and buttocks waxing are reserved for women.

Threading removes hair from the root with knotted cotton thread, and can target individual hairs. It is used on the brows, lip, chin, forehead, sideburns, hands, fingers, feet and toes. A simple eyebrow threading takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and a full face takes 20 to 30 minutes. Results typically last two to eight weeks depending on hair type and area. The salon says threading uses no harmful chemicals or heat. Eyebrow consultations are available before threading to talk through thickness, shape and style.

Waxing uses hard wax for sensitive areas such as the face, underarms and bikini line, and honey wax for other areas. Honey wax is poured fresh into a single-use cup for each session and discarded afterward, and wax is never double-dipped. Waxing needs hair at least a quarter inch long or lying flat against the skin, so clients are asked not to shave for seven to ten days beforehand. Disposable panties are provided, and a cape is available on request for underarm waxing. Waxing takes place in a clean, comfortable, private room.

Lash services include keratin lifts, tints, classic and hybrid extensions applied with nontoxic glue, strip lashes, party lashes, and a lash wash that is complimentary with a full set of extensions. Lash appointments run from about 30 minutes for a tint to about two hours for extensions. Microblading and microfeathering are available as semi-permanent brow treatments.

Threading and waxing are presented as gentle options, with the salon describing threading as fast and friendly to sensitive skin. Hard wax is chosen for the most sensitive areas and honey wax for the rest, with disposable supplies and non-latex gloves used throughout.

Waxing rooms are clean, comfortable and private.
