The program runs for three months and is hands-on, so students spend their time practicing the work rather than only learning it in theory.
The hands-on training centers on braiding techniques and hair care. Alongside the craft, the curriculum covers the basics of entrepreneurship, including how to build a clientele, along with branding, networking and marketing.
Students also learn the professional side of working with clients: work etiquette and professionalism, plus money management and financial literacy. The combination is meant to prepare young people for the hair business as well as the chair.
The program teaches a practical craft alongside the business and professional skills needed to work with clients.
