The salon was started to fill a gap the founder saw in hair care for textured hair. Owner Felicia Smith created it alongside Karat Hair Care, a product line meant to support long-term hair health. The salon's goal is lasting moisture and length retention, reached through professional services, education and products.

New clients usually begin with the First Visit Experience, an appointment of about three hours that includes a consultation, scalp analysis, detox cleanse, deep treatment, trim and silk press. It costs $285 with a $50 deposit and is required for all first-time clients. Anyone who wants to talk through their hair health and goals before booking can choose the Strategy Session, a consultation of 30 minutes or more starting at $40.

Braids, twists and sets make up much of the menu. Knotless and boho knotless braids, texture sets and extended texture sets are offered, and extension hair is either included or bought by the client depending on the service. Knotless braids need hair at least 5 inches long. Relaxer Retouch and Quarterly Relaxer Retouch both include a free consultation, a hair and scalp analysis, a protein or moisture treatment and a silk press.

The salon is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 5 PM, Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM, and is closed Monday, Tuesday and Sunday. Appointments are canceled if a client is more than 10 minutes late, and clients are not accepted after 15 minutes. Reservation fees and payments are non-refundable, and a no-call no-show is charged the full remaining balance. Children and extra guests are not allowed unless they are being served.

Classes are offered for teens and moms. Learn To Braid is a one-on-one class for preteens and teens at $220, booked Sunday through Tuesday. Mom's Learn To Braid is a group class at $325 that provides all supplies and a take-home kit. The salon also offers a 16-hour TN Braider Certification course at $550, which covers sanitation, sterilization, HIV/AIDS, scalp disorders and Tennessee certification requirements, with help setting up the State Board account and the application.
