The Tan Banana

The Tan Banana is a spray tanning studio located in Studio #17 inside Sola Salons at 1550 Front St. in San Diego. Its work centers on custom airbrush sunless tans, applied after a hydrating pre-spray treatment and typically taking about 15 minutes.

Technicians help each client choose a color level suited to their skin tone. Visits take place in a private tanning area, and disposable tops and bottoms are available on request.

Clients can book a single custom tan, buy a 3 or 5 pack, or join a monthly membership. Packages are valid for six months from purchase and tans are non-transferable. Two upgrades are offered: Rapid Tan, which can be rinsed in as little as 2 to 4 hours, and Double Dip, which adds a second pass of the rapid blend over the signature solution for a darker bronze.

The studio uses products from Infinity Sun. The signature solution is described as an anti-aging sunless formula with antioxidants and botanicals, and it can be rinsed after 8 to 12 hours. The studio describes Infinity Sun as a leader in the sunless tanning industry. The business's own wording, not an independent rating.

Clients are given preparation and aftercare guidance: shave or wax 24 to 48 hours before, avoid lotions, perfumes and deodorants on the day, avoid oil-based products and Dove bar soap, and exfoliate beforehand. Afterward, showering is delayed 8 to 12 hours, or 2 to 4 hours with the rapid solution. A custom tan typically lasts 5 to 10 days, and Infinity Sun Extender can add 3 to 5 days. Overspray and bronzer may stain clothing worn during the appointment.
