The Smooth Kitty

The Smooth Kitty is a waxing studio run by its owner, Krystal Oatley, a licensed esthetician. The business was previously known as Krystal Clear Skin. The studio occupies a private suite in a small set of office suites at 2575 E. Perrin, Suite 102, beside a Chevron gas station.

Krystal has been a licensed esthetician since 2007. She spent her first two decades in the dental field, working for specialists, before deciding in 2012 to devote her whole practice to waxing. She keeps current through continuing education classes and aesthetic conferences, so she can stay up to date on waxing techniques and products.

Every Brazilian wax starts with cleansing cloths in a private setting. The skin is then cleansed and prepped with oil so the wax grips only the hair. Warm wax goes on in small two-inch strips applied with a wooden stick, kept warm but never hot enough to burn, and clients are invited to speak up right away if the wax feels too hot. Strips are pulled against the direction of hair growth, and tweezers clear any stray hairs. A Brazilian usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Hair is removed from the genital area and buttocks, and from the anus on request, and the remaining pubic hair can be shaped into a landing strip if the client prefers.

The studio aims for visits where clients feel comfortable, pampered and looked after. Krystal also walks clients through the differences between waxing and shaving so they can make their own choice.

Booking is by appointment only. Opening hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon; the studio is closed on Mondays and Sundays. Appointments requested within 24 hours must be arranged directly with Krystal by text. Cash, Venmo, Cash App and Zelle are accepted, and credit cards and tap to pay are accepted with a 2.9% plus $0.15 charge.
