The Self Care Sanctuary was founded by Jenn (Jennifer Brouton), and the business grew out of her own experience caring for natural hair.
The salon's care is aimed at restoring and maintaining the health of hair, scalp, skin and nails, with styling treated as secondary to that health. Every first visit starts with a full intake conversation and a Crown Clarity Consultation for hair and scalp assessment, followed by a service matched to the client's goals. Clients call the number in their confirmation when they arrive and are greeted at the door. The team also educates clients on home hair care and tools, so the results of a visit can last. The salon says it keeps high sanitation standards, and clients with symptoms of illness are asked to reschedule.
Services cover natural hair experiences such as curl enhancement, twist styles and loc care; wig and extension work including glueless installs, protective crochet installs and takedowns; color touch-ups and toning; two-person skin and hair sessions; facials and waxing; and mobile styling for events and editorial work. Color and extension services cannot be added to the same day. The salon also offers business coaching and hosts workshops on self-care, hair care, financial literacy and beauty entrepreneurship. Children ages 6 and up are seen only when they are part of an existing client's family, and no new child clients are being accepted.
Hours are Monday and Tuesday 9:00am to 2:00pm, Thursday and Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm, with the salon closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Digital gift certificates range from $50 to $500, and a Family and Friends plan allows shared access to membership benefits when clients enroll through a team specialist.
Health of hair, scalp, skin and nails comes before styling, and the team teaches clients consistent home routines so results last after a visit.
