The Scalp Shop was founded by Giovanni James, who conceptualized scalp micropigmentation in the 1990s. Giovanni later teamed up with Dangerkat, bringing together backgrounds in music, visual art, dance and design to shape the studio's creative style. Every hairline is designed for the individual without stencils. Clients upload recent photos of their hair loss when booking, and the design is adjusted with their feedback until they are satisfied before treatment begins. Designs take facial structure, lifestyle and goals into account. Consultations are free and can be held in person, by phone or by FaceTime, and treatment fees are discussed once the case has been assessed. Appointments are required at both locations. SMP is performed by placing pigment into the scalp to imitate tiny hair follicles. It can recreate the look of a close buzz cut on a bald head, or add density to thinning hair and the crown. Men's treatments can frame the hairline, add crown density and blend thinning areas into the sides. Women's treatments can restore the edges and add density, and work with short or long hair. Alopecia areata spots are filled so they blend with surrounding hair, patchy beard treatment is offered to build a fuller beard, and scar camouflage conceals FUE or FUT transplant scars, accident scars and childhood blemishes. Counsel is available as an add-on at $150 per hour, or on its own at $200 per hour; the first one-hour counsel session is complimentary.
