About

The founder started at a salon on 57th Street, beginning with floor work such as sweeping and washing dishes. From there the founder assisted a well-known New York color master and then worked on the floor of a Madison Avenue salon, training alongside New York hair masters along the way. The founder later partnered with a New York stylist to build a salon brand, which the salon describes as one of the most respected in the world.

The salon names three principles: being human, mastering the craft, and creating a harmonious setting for clients. It describes its colorists as trained in the tradition of New York's great color masters, calls its stylists master stylists, and says it has more than 30 years of expertise. Its stated focus is master color, precision cuts and hospitality.

Every appointment begins with a consultation. A haircut consultation covers hair density, texture, growth pattern, lifestyle and styling habits before shampooing. Color appointments start with a review of current color and the look wanted, and every color service ends with the formula recorded so the next visit begins from the previous one. Treatment plans are chosen after assessing hair and scalp condition rather than from a fixed menu. Keratin treatments are booked at least two weeks after a color service, and color is not booked within two weeks after a keratin treatment.

The salon is on the Upper East Side, a short walk from St. Patrick's Cathedral, The Plaza, The Pierre, The St. Regis and Saks Fifth Avenue. The Lexington Avenue and Fifth Avenue stops at 59th Street are both nearby, and there are several parking garages in the immediate area. Opening hours are Monday 10 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Thursday 8 am to 8 pm, Friday 9 am to 7 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4:30 pm, with the salon closed on Sundays. The Greenwich location serves Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Riverside, Cos Cob and nearby towns. The Sag Harbor location serves Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Southampton, North Haven and the wider East End. Both partner salons take bookings through The Salon Project, and their hours are listed as coming soon.

Online bookings receive 10% off every service. Reserving online requires a credit card, and late cancellations or no-shows are charged the full amount. Standard services need 24 hours' notice to cancel, while specialty services such as keratin, Japanese, bridal and extension appointments need 72 hours. Blowouts and men's cuts are the services most often available on the same day. The salon suggests booking a stylist three to seven days in advance, and booking color or a first visit roughly two weeks ahead. The booking platform lists women's haircut and style at $185 to $400, blowout included, though prices vary by artist and location. Balayage pricing depends on hair length, density and the desired result.

Each visit starts with a consultation, and treatment plans are built from an assessment of the hair and scalp rather than a set default. Color formulas are recorded so each visit builds on the last.

The salon describes its hospitality as a core part of the visit, set on the fourth floor of a Madison Avenue building.
