The Parlour opened its first salon on Walnut Street in Boulder in 1989, and the company describes itself as Colorado owned and Colorado grown. Gene Cahill opened that original location. The group has since grown to seven salons across the Denver metro, Broomfield and Fort Collins, with the LoDo location opening in 1996, Fort Collins in 1998, Flatirons in 2010, Wash Park in 2010, Capitol Hill operating since 2014, RiNo in 2017. Color is the core of the menu. Options range from root retouches and all-over color to highlights, balayage, lightening and toning, grey blending, and dimensional color. Several named highlight techniques are on the list, including Foilyage, Baby-Light, Teasy Light, Platinum Card and Root Shadow, along with add-ons such as a money piece, ponytail lights and a tip-out.
