The Original Childrens Shop Seattle

The shop first opened in 1952 in Seattle's Laurelhurst neighborhood and has been in the Madison Park business district for about 30 years. The Etherington/Kucher family bought it in 1989, and it is now run by Kellie Lillybridge, the third generation of her family to operate it. A second store opened in downtown Wenatchee in October 2020.

The shop carries clothing for babies from newborn to 24 months, along with girls', boys' and mamas' clothing and clothing for expectant mothers. Its range also includes blankets, toys, plush, books and baby gear such as car seats, carriers, diaper bags and strollers. Clothing and gifts come from European specialty brands, American companies and independent labels.

The Seattle salon offers children's haircuts. Each price includes a wash, cut and consultation. Children ages 4 and under sit in a Mercedes Benz chair, and older children use a larger chair. Appointments can be booked online or by calling the Seattle store. Clients who cancel up to the appointment start time pay no fee, and cancellations made within 24 hours must go through a phone call. A missed appointment that is not cancelled before its start time may be charged up to the full price. Children arriving more than 10 minutes late need to reschedule, and the salon may reschedule a child who shows cold or flu-like symptoms.

Orders can be placed by phone, with complimentary gift wrapping. Standard shipping is $5, and eligible orders of $75 or more after discounts ship standard for free. Express shipping is $30. Standard orders generally arrive within 5 to 7 calendar days, though that is an estimate rather than a guarantee.

The shop says it favors organic, sustainable, women-owned and mom-run businesses when possible.
