The Hair Lab was founded in 2016, and owner Amber Martin took the business on independently that year. Amber trained at Minnesota School of Beauty in Lakeville, started working in the beauty industry in 2006, and has more than 19 years of experience.

Color is a major part of the menu. Options range from all-over color and root retouch to full, partial and focus foils, balayage, bayalage, ombre and toner. Specialty colors and vivids, in shades such as pinks, purples, greens and rainbow tones, are also offered. Before a color service, Amber talks through the client's goals and shapes the color to suit them.

Haircuts are available for women, men and children, along with bang trims, beard trims, buzz cuts and peek-a-boo styles. Styling is offered for weddings, prom and everyday occasions. Waxing covers eyebrows, lip and chin. Body sculpting sessions, which the salon describes as non-invasive, target areas such as arms, thighs and abdomen and can treat up to two areas per visit. The salon says body sculpting can reduce the appearance of cellulite and tone the body.

The salon uses professional hair products and offers Olaplex treatments and deep conditioning. It describes itself as award winning and says it has received 21 awards, including Top Colorist, Top Stylist and Top Salon for Dakota County.

Amber starts each color service with a consultation on the client's goals and adjusts the color to match, aiming for a personal experience at a fair price while keeping up with current trends and products.
