The Hair Den began operating as THD in 2020 and was founded by chaunesty aaliyah, who serves as CEO. The salon says its purpose is to give Black and brown clients a safe space to express themselves through their hair, and it states that it has transformed lives through its services.
Booking opens on the third Saturday of each month for the following month, and clients are asked to read the full policy before booking. New clients and clients not seen in the last three months need a virtual consultation before their appointment, which cannot fall on the same day as a hair appointment. Extra guests are not allowed; bringing someone means rescheduling and a fee unless the guest is old enough to be left alone. Rescheduling is expected within 48 hours of the appointment, otherwise a fee of at least 50% of the service price may apply depending on timing.
Micro-link installs begin with washing, steaming, deep conditioning and trimming the natural hair, followed by installing, trimming and styling the micro-links, and clients leave with a goodie bag.
The salon also offers photo and video shoots and content creator sessions. These require a virtual consultation, and content creator sessions can take place in the salon or at the client's location. Photo shoots include a travel fee when the location is more than 20 miles away.
