The Curl District

Founded and led by Aubriana, The Curl District was built from the ground up as a salon for natural and textured hair. The salon describes itself as a leading natural hair salon in Saint Paul and as the premier blow out salon in the Twin Cities. Clients travel in from Minneapolis, Roseville, Woodbury and Eagan as well as Saint Paul.

Services fall into four groups: Blowouts, Color, Curl care and Silk press. A blow out starts with a gentle shampoo and a hydrating conditioning treatment, and the finish is shaped to the look wanted and the client's natural hair type, with home care advice included. A blow-dry bar is available as well.

Color is planned around textured hair. Before any color service, the stylist assesses porosity, curl type, elasticity and history. Options include balayage with hand-painted highlights, dimensional highlights and lowlights, single process color, root touch-ups with gray coverage, and color correction and transitioning. Color appointments include moisturizing prep, detangling, custom formulation, bond builders and a deep conditioning finish.

Curl care covers everything from waves to coils, with techniques to bring out definition and reduce frizz. Silk press includes a deep cleansing and hydration treatment, blow-dry and straightening, a silk finish and styling, and teaching on home care. Hair coaching is also offered.

Booking is set up with clear rules. Color and extension services need a consultation before they can be booked. New clients must choose from the New Client category and pay a non-refundable deposit that is applied to the total. Appointments have a 10-minute grace period, and online cancellations made at least 48 hours ahead are free; later changes are handled directly with the salon. Shampoo is included in every service, and hair should be detangled before arrival. Squeeze-in appointments can be requested for an extra $100. Payment is accepted by debit and credit cards, cash, Venmo and Zelle. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM; Sunday and Thursday are closed or by request.
