About

The Coily Collective describes itself as an inclusive hair studio with a refined salon experience. It says it honors every curl, coil and wave in each service and aims to create a space that celebrates the different experiences clients bring with them.

The salon covers several areas of hair work. Braids and locs include box braids, knotless braids, twists, faux locs, Fulani braids, cornrows, feed-in cornrows and braided updos. Coloring ranges from single process and retouches to balayage and highlights, double process, gloss and tone, and creative or fantasy color, with color removal available for clients who ended up darker than they wanted. Micro-link, weave and sew-in extensions include express weaves, half-up-half-down sew-ins, versatile sew-ins and traditional sew-ins, each with stated requirements for hair length, parting and bundles. Treatments such as a custom oil treatment or a keratin, Olaplex or moisture treatment can be added to a styling or color service.

Consultations help newer and potential clients choose a service. Color, haircut, micro-link, weave and braid consults are open to new clients who are unsure what to book, and to returning or potential clients only. A color kit consult suits clients who travel and want to keep their color fresh between visits, with product recommendations listed on the website. Braid and loc styling is booked as a Zoom session first, and that session is required before any braid appointment.

Booking details are worth knowing before a visit. Cancellations or reschedules need at least 24 hours' notice; later cancellations are charged the full service fee plus a $50 fee that is not credited. Hair should be detangled before the appointment, clients with braids, weaves or other intricate styles must book a take-down, and guests are not permitted because space is limited. Clients are sent a gate access code in their confirmation email, and the salon offers a complimentary redo within 14 days, with the same stylist, if a result is not right.

The salon describes its method as inclusive hair work within a cultured salon setting, and says it honors the natural shape of every curl, coil and wave in each service.
