The resort sits on about 102 acres of oceanfront land on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, with views of the Pacific, Catalina Island and the resort's gardens and pools. Lowe Enterprises became involved in its development in 1998, and it opened to guests in June 2009 with a Mediterranean design by Hill Glazier Architects and Scheurer Architects. The land once held Marineland of the Pacific until it closed in 1986, and the television series Sea Hunt was filmed on and around the site in the late 1950s.

The resort sits on about 102 acres of oceanfront land on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, with views of the Pacific, Catalina Island and the resort's gardens and pools. The Spa at Terranea is the resort's oceanfront spa.

Golf is a separate part of the resort: The Links is a 9-hole, par-3 course on the ocean that is open to the public, with tee times that can be booked in advance.
