Sisterlocks is a natural hair management system for tightly textured hair. It uses no extensions and no chemicals, and it was created in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell. It can be established on relaxed hair, and styling options expand as the natural texture grows out. The business says that once established, Sisterlocks can be removed, though the process is slow and tedious. SUNLOCS also offers Interlocks and Microlocs, with Interlocks retightening recommended every six to eight weeks.

Every new client starts with a phone interview and an in-person consultation before an establishment can be booked. Consultations are offered by phone or in person and can be booked online or by calling the business. Hair should be clean, free of product and loose for the consultation, with no conditioner, blow-drying or flat-ironing beforehand. Establishments begin at $800 or more, and the final price depends on hair length and density, head circumference, tender or problem areas, consultant experience and expected maintenance. A $300 non-refundable deposit reserves the date, with the balance due at the start of the first day. Establishments running longer than three days carry an extra $100 to hold those dates.

Retightening is best booked four to eight weeks after the last visit, with hair freshly shampooed and locs separated at the roots. Pricing is $140 for four to six weeks of growth, $165 for seven to eight weeks, and $210 for nine to ten or more weeks, and extra time beyond the booked service is charged at $25 per additional hour. The first retightening after establishment is free. On-location retightening at clients' homes is available only to established clients who book two weeks ahead, and it adds a travel fee of $15 to $60 based on distance.

Payment is due when services are rendered and can be made by cash, debit or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express), or through Zelle, Square, Cash App or PayPal, with no card processing fee charged to clients. Online booking requires a card on file held through Square. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, and late cancellations or no-shows are charged 50 percent of the scheduled service. Appointments start at the booked time, with a 15-minute grace period for late arrivals. Refunds are not issued, because deposits hold time for each client. Visitors are not allowed during appointments, apart from nursing babies and arms, and video recording is prohibited during establishments. Photos taken by the business belong to it and may be used for marketing.

Uses a gentle, chemical-free method that avoids over-tightening and abrasion to the hair or scalp, and encourages clients not to attempt their own locs, since different hair types need different locking techniques.
