Sug

Sug was started by Jarratt Haviland and operated as Sugar and Bronze before taking its current name. Sugaring was added to the salon in May 2014. The salon combines sugaring and custom airbrush tanning under one roof, which it describes as a first of its kind.

Sug operates from Suite D at 10859 Perkins Road, close to Perkins Rowe, in a shopping center that also houses Peerless Cleaners. Sugaring can be booked for hair removal anywhere from the brows down to the toes, though scalps and men's beards are not included. The sugar paste contains nothing but sugar, lemon and water. A lash and brow lift with tint is a short appointment that can be combined with brow shaping, and the tint shade is selected individually for each client.

Airbrush tanning uses a private-label solution that is certified organic and based on aloe vera and white tea. The salon describes the solution as top-of-the-line and says its tans have no typical sunless tan odor or stickiness. Tans continue to develop for up to 24 hours after the session, and tanning solutions are available that allow showering from one to 12 hours after application.

To get the best results from sugaring, clients are asked to avoid shaving for seven to ten days beforehand, to skip airbrush tanning for 24 hours before a sugaring appointment, and to avoid exfoliating the area the day before and the day of. Sunburned skin should not be sugared. Clients may be sugared during their period and are asked to wear a tampon. Before an airbrush tan, clients are asked to skip lotions, creams, perfumes and make-up and to wear loose, dark clothing. Gift cards and packages are sold.

Sugar paste is applied by hand rather than warm, and it is removed in the direction of hair growth.
