New guests book a New Guest appointment online, complete a New Guest Form beforehand with notes about themselves or their hair, and start with a consultation covering hair history and a longer-term plan for their goals. Services are tailored to face shape, coloring, lifestyle, how much maintenance a guest wants, budget and goals. Stylists recommend products for at-home care at the end of each visit, and the salon has a small boutique.

Extension clients submit an application, then meet in person for a consultation that includes an exact price quote and hair color matching. A 50% deposit at consultation secures the booking and orders the hair, and the balance is due at the installation appointment. Installation pricing covers the hair, the installation, a cut to blend, styling and take-home maintenance products. Coloring of natural hair or extensions is an additional charge. Clients cannot bring their own hair, so it must be purchased through the salon. Finer hair suits extensions best, since thicker hair needs more hair and costs more. The salon notes that curly hair is hard to match to extensions and may suit wearing natural curls blown out to match instead. Maintenance, priced at $225 for density and from $350 for length, covers removal, an exfoliating scalp cleanse, a conditioning treatment of natural hair, reinstallation, trim and style. It is recommended every 6 to 8 weeks, since going longer can cause tangling. Extensions should be brushed several times a day and blow-dried right after washing, and frequent swimming is discouraged because chlorine, sunscreen and salt water shorten their lifespan.

Stylist training is described as consistent, innovative and in-depth, starting at hire and continuing through a stylist's career. Promotions and price increases are based on guest satisfaction, retention, utilization rate, performance and education, and the salon states that a stylist's skill or creativity does not necessarily follow from years of experience. Cancellations and rescheduling need 48 hours notice, and guests arriving 20 or more minutes late are asked to reschedule. Credit card payments carry a 3.5% transaction fee, cash is accepted and personal checks are not. A $2 ECO fee is added to each service ticket as part of the salon's Green Circle Salons partnership. Only Studio 31 gift cards are accepted, and they expire two years after purchase unless otherwise specified.
