Stilisti was founded in 2006 by Marisa Marino, who opened the salon that year. It moved to its current Newbury Street location in 2015 and marked its tenth anniversary in 2016. The salon serves both men and women.

The salon names education, empowerment and experience as its guiding principles and describes its approach as luxury grounded in care and connection. Team members take part in weekly in-salon classes and have attended educational programs including the Davines World Wide Hair Tour, ColorSphere and Goldwell Academy. The salon hires apprentices and supports their training through mentorship. It describes its team as award-winning and among Boston's most talented stylists, and says its colorists are board-certified. According to the salon, The Improper Bostonian named it Best of Boston, and it was featured in Boston Magazine's Best of Boston issue in 2008.

The space has a limited number of stations, which the salon says keeps it quiet and uncrowded. Clients change into a provided robe, and custom robes and complimentary wireless internet are available. Color appointments open with a consultation about lifestyle, skin tone and preferences, and color is a multi-step process. Color should be booked first when a visit includes a haircut, since haircuts include a blow-dry. The salon is closed on Mondays for education and development.

Texture and smoothing work begins with a consultation to assess hair condition, texture and goals, and each treatment is customized to the client's hair type. Signature scalp work includes the Nioxin Scalp Treatment, designed to address buildup, excess oil and thinning, and a Mini Massage. Bridal services start with a consultation and include a trial appointment, and bridal hair and makeup can be done in the salon or on location.

Appointments can be booked through the online system or by contacting the salon. Cancelling within 24 hours costs a $100 fee, and a no-show is charged the full service price. Wedding and special event bookings require a 50% deposit, which is nonrefundable for cancellations within four weeks of the event. Haircut prices are the same for women and men. Prices are subject to change, and current pricing is available from customer service.
