Lenora opened Steel Magnolias in Hermitage in 1998 as a salon with several stylists, manicurists and an esthetician. In 2009 it became a private studio salon in Mt Juliet, and in 2018 Natasha and Lenora formed a partnership and brought the salon back to Hermitage.

The owners opened Steel Magnolias Suites in 2021 and plan to grow it as opportunities come up.
Visits are by appointment, and the salon is usually booked two to eight weeks ahead. A $25 deposit secures a first appointment and is applied to the service price on the day of the visit; it is refundable if the booking is canceled or changed with at least 48 hours' notice. The salon says it aims to give each client a personalized experience.
The salon shares before-and-after photos of its work on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
