Spotless was founded by Dr. Amy Wechsler and her daughter Zoe Wechsler. Dr. Wechsler is a dermatologist who is board-certified in both dermatology and psychiatry, and the site describes her as one of the few physicians with that double certification. The site also calls her one of the most in-demand dermatologists in NYC. Clinicians are board-certified, licensed nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are trained in Dr. Wechsler's methods for treating acne.
The clinic has two ground-floor locations: the Upper East Side at 1053 Lexington Avenue, and Greenwich Village at 31 E 11th Street, right off University Place. It is open six days a week, with evening hours on weekdays and shorter hours on Saturday, and it is closed on Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome, though patients with scheduled appointments are seen first, and appointments can be booked online or by phone. Each appointment is reserved for a single patient. No referral or membership is needed for prescription acne care.
A new client usually starts with a consultation, which costs $275 and includes a full skin evaluation, a medical history review and a personalized treatment plan, often with prescriptions written during the visit. Clinicians must see a patient before any medication can be prescribed, but no consultation is needed to receive a treatment. Prescriptions cover topical retinoids, topical clindamycin and azelaic acid, oral low-dose doxycycline, the oral contraceptive pill, spironolactone and isotretinoin. Follow-ups cost $125 and can be done in person or by secure video visit, though telemedicine is offered for follow-ups only and treatments are done in person.
The clinic treats acne as both a medical and an emotional condition, and says it looks at sleep, stress, exercise and relationships alongside the skin. Some prescription medications are approved for use starting at age 12, and teen treatment is individualized. Patients under 18 need a parent or guardian present for the first treatment, who can sign a form allowing later visits alone. Children under 8 and babies are not treated. Spotless does not accept insurance but provides itemized receipts with diagnosis codes for patients to submit to their carrier, accepts HSA and FSA cards for eligible expenses, and offers a 10% military and healthcare discount with valid ID. Cancellations or reschedules within 24 hours cost $20, and a missed appointment without notice costs $50.
Treatments follow Dr. Amy Wechsler's mind-body approach, which treats acne as a medical and emotional condition and addresses sleep, stress, exercise and relationships alongside the skin.
Each appointment is reserved for one patient at a time.
