Spa Habitat began with Amy Bohn, who started as a massage therapist running her own small spa in Plano. Over several years she worked with an organic chemist and an herbalist to develop the Clovertree Apothecary line. The business later chose to become an organic spa and removed artificial colors, artificial fragrances and parabens from its products. The original Flagship spa sits in a Victorian home built in 1908 in Historic Downtown Plano. Other locations are West Village in Uptown Dallas, Preston Royal in Preston Hollow, Legacy in The Shops at Legacy, and Southlake in Park Village.

About

A visit usually starts in a relaxation room with a warm herbal pack and a complimentary spa beverage, whether it is a massage, facial or waxing appointment. Guests are asked to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early. The spa uses custom-curated music and seasonal sensory experiences, and the Flagship location has large suites that work for individual or couples treatments. Gift cards can be bought online and are redeemable at any location, and appointments can be booked online.

Among the signature offerings is the Signature Organic Massage, an 80-minute full body session with warm herbal packs, organic oil, a foot massage and a hydrating hand and foot treatment. Spa Habitat also offers an Oncology Massage and an Oncology Facial for clients during and after cancer treatment. The massage is tailored to each client with gentle, non-irritating products from therapists with specialized oncology training, and the facial uses products chosen for compromised or delicate skin. Earth Mama Massage is a prenatal massage for the second and third trimesters.

The business states that its products are organic, cruelty-free and eco-friendly, and that they leave out parabens, phthalates, petroleum, sulfates, petrochemicals, formaldehyde, mineral oil, talc, artificial dyes and fragrances, and harsh preservatives. It says it researches every ingredient and will provide a full ingredient list for any product or service on request. Vendors are chosen for eco-friendly and sustainable practices, with Fair Trade businesses supported when possible. Linens and robes are organic or eco-friendly, and the spa says it runs on wind power when possible and uses recycled paper. Clovertree products are handmade in Texas and sold online, and each location has a Remedy Bar where products are grouped by remedy. The apothecary welcomes walk-in visitors.

The spa cites several honors, which are its own claims rather than independently confirmed here. These include D Magazine and Dallas Observer naming it a top Dallas spa, Dallas Observer and Dallas-area voters choosing its massage, DAYSPA Magazine naming the Green Freak package a top spa package in the U.S., and Organic Spa Magazine listing it among the top organic spas in the world. It also says it has helped plant over 300,000 trees and sponsors the Ricardo Fisas Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Trees for the Future.

Organic and plant-based throughout. The spa states that it uses only natural and organic products in its spa services, and that its products are free of harsh chemicals.

The spa describes its feel as welcoming, reclaimed and eco-friendly, with a vintage farmhouse look at Preston Royal and a Victorian home setting at Flagship.
