The Southlake location works as a landlord for beauty professionals rather than as a salon with its own staff. Each renter runs an independent business from a private suite, and the site describes the company as independently owned and operated at this location, with each professional or business there also independently owned.
Each suite has a glass door with its own lock and key, and the building has 24/7 security. Suites come equipped with full-spectrum lighting, a shampoo bowl and a styling chair. Renters pay one weekly fee that covers utilities and Wi-Fi, and access hours vary by location.
Renters control much of how their space and business run. They choose the brands and products they sell and keep all profits from them, decorate and furnish the suite as they like, pick their own music and artwork, and set their own schedules.
The company says it has more than 20,000 independent business owners in its community. It hosts gatherings for renters such as cocktail parties and family picnics, and renters get discounts on retail products, offers for online scheduling, continuing education programs and industry events.
New renters receive a start-up manual covering checklists, the salon and other licenses and permits they may need, studio setup details, credit card processing tips and retail distributor contacts. Renters also have access to liability insurance and disability insurance, which is available in certain areas.
Clients who want to book should use the Stylist Directory, which links them to the individual professional renting the suite they want. The location is off Southlake Boulevard (Highway 1709) and Nolen Drive, across the parking lot from Weirs.
The model is built around independent professionals running their own businesses from private suites, with the company supplying the space, utilities, insurance and support resources.
