Sola Salons La Mesa

Sola Salons is a suite rental company. Rather than employing stylists or technicians, it leases individual suites to independent professionals who run their own businesses. Each Sola Salon Studios location is independently owned and operated, and the company says it has more than 20,000 independent business owners in its community.

The salon rents private suites to a broad mix of beauty and wellness workers: barbers, brow technicians, estheticians, hair extension specialists, hairstylists, wellness professionals, laser hair removal providers, lash technicians, makeup artists, massage therapists, medical spa staff, nail technicians, permanent makeup artists, tattoo artists and waxing specialists. Each renter decides how their own space looks, including the artwork, music, furniture and decor. Renters also select the brands and products they sell and keep all of the profit from those sales.

Renters pay one weekly fee that covers utilities and Wi-Fi. The Otay Ranch Town Center suites are described as having full-spectrum lighting, a shampoo bowl, a styling chair, bathroom facilities and a breakroom, with on-site laundry, janitorial service and 24/7 security. Each suite has a glass door with its own lock and key. Access hours vary by location.

New renters receive a start-up manual with forms and tips for salon and other licenses and permits, insurance, studio setup, credit card processing, and retail support and distributor contacts. Renters can also access liability insurance and disability insurance, the latter available in certain areas, along with retail discounts, offers for online scheduling, continuing education programs and industry events.

The company hosts community gatherings for renters at its locations, such as cocktail parties and family picnics.

Sola Salons gives independent professionals a private, self-run space with a flat weekly cost and control over their own brand, products and décor.
