Smoothed was founded by Kaylie Babajan, who developed the SMOOTHED method over more than ten years of keratin work. Every Smoothologist is trained in that method and follows the same products and standards. Each Smoothologist runs as an independent business owner who manages their own scheduling, pricing and client relationships. The salon uses professional products made by third-party manufacturers and does not formulate them. Its keratin treatments are described as formaldehyde-free and curl-safe, and they coat and fill the strand rather than permanently breaking its bonds, so natural curl can remain. The treatment is not permanent: hair may return to its natural texture after washing unless it is styled, and results are designed to last up to three months when aftercare is followed. Keratin does not reverse existing breakage or repair severely compromised hair.

A visit starts with a free group video consult on Google Meet, usually 30 to 60 minutes, with a limited number released each month and camera use optional. Recommendations may be adjusted once the stylist sees the hair in person. Keratin is booked at one flat price set by the Smoothologist chosen, and pricing depends on that person's experience rather than on curl pattern, thickness or length. Clients must arrive with clean, fully detangled natural hair; treatments are not performed over extensions, wigs or other added hair. Guidance on hair type covers straight, wavy, curly, coily, gray and other textures, and treatments are organized for wavy Type 1-2, curly Type 3, coily Type 4 and multi-textured hair. Color appointments are recommended two weeks before or one week after a keratin appointment, since keratin may shift color or cause brassiness in blonde, highlighted or dark color-treated hair.

The salon is an open, public space with large open doors and shared stations, so visual privacy is not offered. Appointments are booked, rescheduled and cancelled online only, and there is no front desk. Questions the website does not answer can be emailed to info@smoothedsalon.com. Parking is on the street in North Park, and the salon suggests checking Myrtle Street or 29th Street rather than circling 30th Street. Out-of-town clients are asked to note their travel and departure city in the booking notes.

The salon sells Keratin Revolution aftercare kits online and says it was the first in the country to carry the brand; it also says it earns a commission on US Keratin Revolution orders. According to the salon, San Diego Magazine named its keratin treatment Best Keratin Treatment 2025. The salon says it is planning its next location.

Every Smoothologist follows the same method, products and standards, and each treatment is planned for the hair as it is at that visit. The salon says it treats hair seriously, with the long term in mind.
