The name is a play on words, chosen after the founders could not trademark SKINNY.

The first location was a single treatment room inside a doctor's office brownstone on East 61st Street. Early technologies included Alma Harmony XL SR and HR lasers, Pixel, Thermage, the Lipotron 3000 and chemical peels. By 2011 the team had grown to four employees and bookings ran three to four weeks out. Later milestones include a Flatiron flagship in Manhattan that opened in 2014, a period inside the Plaza Hotel from 2015 to 2019, a collaboration with Saks Fifth Avenue that began in 2017, and locations inside Saks in Bal Harbour, Florida and Houston Galleria, Texas in 2021.
