About

Shuly Wigs began as a small collection of handmade custom wigs, founded by designer Shuly Amsel. Over more than twenty years, the business has made and customized wigs, including cranial prosthesis devices. The salon describes itself as a leading New York destination for upscale wigs and cranial prostheses.

Wigs are made from 100% human hair and tailored to each client. The Luxury Collection uses virgin European hair, with light and dark colors left unprocessed. The Studio Collection uses premium South American hair, which is naturally somewhat coarser, and its darker shades are generally unprocessed while most lighter shades are processed to reach the desired color. Lace top options are available in either collection, and base shades can be customized on request.

Shuly Wigs also works on wigs bought elsewhere, including most major brands. Most repairs are done on-site by in-house technicians, and more complex work is sent to trusted factory experts. Older wigs may not be repairable depending on their condition, so the team assesses each piece and gives recommendations. Each wig comes with a one-year limited warranty and access to ongoing maintenance support.

For medical hair loss, the salon offers private consultations and fittings in a discreet setting, and serves clients affected by alopecia, chemotherapy, autoimmune conditions, hormonal disorders and other medical conditions. Medical credit cards such as CareCredit are accepted, along with HSA and FSA funds, and staff help with insurance reimbursement documentation for medically necessary wigs and cranial prostheses. The team suggests asking insurers about coverage for a cranial hair prosthesis rather than a wig.

The salon is open Monday to Thursday, 10:00AM to 5:30PM. It is closed Friday to Sunday, except for appointments on the first Sunday of each month. Appointments and orders can be made by emailing info@shulywigs.com or calling (718) 851-7778, and WhatsApp is available at (929) 704-0114.

Wigs are designed to suit the hairline, texture and skin tone of the wearer for a natural look. Most repairs are handled in-house, with complex work sent to trusted factory experts.
